Latest entry to Gizmodo Photoshop contest

The latest Photoshop contest from Gizmodo asks readers to submit brutally honest ads. Since I’ve been having so much fun with Photoshoping Baumann in Xbox 360 games and movie posters lately, I decided to throw something together.

Here’s the full-size image.

Baumann lands first three cable sales

Congrats to Baumann who upgraded from his job at HHGregg and made his first three cable sales yesterday evening.

I’m a little annoyed that I’m not gonna get the Baumann discount when I finally upgrade the receiver of my entertainment system, but at least I got a TV out of the deal.

But if we stick to The Cable Guy script, I guess I’m gonna end up with a sweet entertainment center anyway. I’ll let you know the full details of the karaoke party when that happens.

The full Baumann Cable Guy poster is after the jump.

‘Catastrophic power failure’ hits my ISP

My site was down all last night. I called my new ISP, HostMonster, and they said it was from a lightening strike. Here’s their official word from an e-mail this morning:

Due to a catastrophic power failure, some HostMonster servers are currently without power. Sprkus.com is currently hosted on one of these servers. Rocky Mountain Power is working to replace hardware as quickly as possible. The current ETA from Rocky Mountain Power is 7:30pm MST. This outage is affecting most of Orem, Utah making it a top priority.

The outage occurred approximately 5pm MST. We were able to prevent data loss as the server you are on was safely shut down under backup power. We apologize for any inconvenience and will have your service restored as quickly as possible.

This site appears to be back up already. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

Columbus personal blogs not named Sprkus

Here are some personal blogs from my competitors other Columbus, Ohio, residents. I found them on Technorati and thought it would be interesting to share:

To make the list the blog’s had to be updated within the past two months and self serving. Meaning, if the purpose of the blog was to advertise the owner’s photography business, it was left out. This is a full, but not complete, list.

OSU dissolves position I was after, for now

A little more than two months after I submitted my resume online to the Ohio State University, and after many e-mails back and forth, I received the following message yesterday afternoon:

Hi Rick,

I’m sorry to tell you that the Web Communications Specialist position has been canceled.  There is currently some reorganization going on in our department; positions are shifting and changing. Because of that, we have decided to rethink the Web Communications Specialist position. We are not sure whether we are going to re-post it at a later date, completely re-tool it, or delete it altogether.

That’s my girlfriend, asshole! Vol. 8

The following ads were posted to Craigslist.org in the Missed Connections section of Columbus, Ohio. I’ve replied to each with only the line “That’s my girlfriend, asshole!” Here are the responses:

Brunette at Highbanks Running Wednesday near 6 pm- m4w (wooded trails)
Date: 2008-07-10, 9:12AM EDT

I passed you twice. The first time you were running with a friend (taller blondish) the second time you were running (quickly) downhill and I was headed uphill. You were wearing a yellow sports bra and black shorts and in a ponytail. I was in black shorts and no shirt. Remember?
