About a month behind schedule. I edited the video at Jaycut.com, which works well as an editor. But the quality of the final product you can download leaves a lot to be desired.

I posted earlier that online video is dead, but was corrected via e-mail by Patrick Bano, co-founder of Jaycut.

“Jaycut is not dead, on the contrary we are just about to launch our next version of our video editor,” he said.

He gave me an invitation code to test out their new editor, which I did. It works well and seems pretty responsive inside of a browser. But until they upgrade the quality of the final product, the site will remain less than desirable.

I have an extra invitation code to their beta editor if anyone else wants to try it out.

First wedding RSVP arrives

Congrats to my uncle Tom, aunt Tina and cousins Abby and Ali for being the first official registrants of our wedding on June 27!

Being the first to register, they will be treated to free food and drinks at the reception (shh, don’t tell them everyone else will too).

Invitations went out on Saturday so keep an eye out.

In a related matter, there is an error on the directions card. It says to take I-70 from the north and south to the Broad St. exit. It’s supposed to say I-71.

Does that make me a Trekkie?

Star Trek

I’ve never been a fan of Star Trek. Not that I hated the franchise, I just never committed. I never watched more than 10 minutes of the original series and no more than a couple episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I thought it was boring.

I was very interested in seeing the new movie, however. I kept reading positives through the movie’s production up through this weekend’s release.

Now I can add my own positive: I liked it. I REALLY liked it. There were even a few butterfly moments, probably due to familiarity picked up from Star Trek’s spread through popular culture.

Whatever the case, I’m a fan of the new movie. So I guess that makes me a fan of Star Trek.

Here are a few things I noticed:

1) James T. Kirk is a badass. For such a nerdy series, Kirk’s character (top left) seems a little out of place. He’s your Alpha, ready to fight in a bar, womanizing smart ass. Like the football player in high school that beats up the science fair kids. But it’s hard not to get behind him. Maybe cause he’s conflicted.

2) Zachary Quinto (Heroes) was born to play Spock. I mean, look at him in that picture above!

3) Green women can still be hot. Kirk hooks up with this Orion girl.

Orion hookup

4) Time travel sucks. At least in movies or TV shows. If you’re not writing “Back to the Future Part IV,” just stay away. It generally makes things too complicated and challenges accuracy. “Lost,” that goes for you too.

Konami code still lives

Contra

Remember the Konami code, back on the old Nintendo Entertainment System?

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start (Enter)?

Well, so do old gaming geeks that grew up into Web site coding geeks. If you enter that code on Facebook, you get some sparklies. And a growing list of other sites are getting in on the action as archived on konamicodesites.com.

Fun stuff.

Toms kids.

I just scored a new pair of summer kicks AND hooked a third-world kid up with a free pair of shoes.

Not bad for a lunch break.

Toms is a shoe company that donates one pair of shoes for every one pair you buy. Here’s the pair I ordered:
